Forest Cottage sits amongst pine, birch and bracken on Loch an Eilein’s wooded north-east shore, in the heart of Rothiemurchus, one of Scotland’s most picturesque Highland estates. This pretty little red-roofed, wooden-porched cottage near Aviemore has been beautifully restored as a cosy luxury forest hideaway, with homely interiors straight out of a Scottish folk tale. The forest embraces you with birdsong and earthy evergreen scents which create a sense of peace and tranquillity from the moment you arrive. The double height living room is achingly charming from the little window seat to its original stone hearth and wood burning stove. The kitchen is fitted with all the luxury appliances you could wish for including a big range oven and wine fridge. The interiors, cleverly designed by London-based stylist and interior designer Fanny Ward, reflect both the infinite variety of woods and greens of the forest using vintage fabrics and simple furnishings to maximum effect. The bedroom is fairy-tale romantic with its super-king bed and red and white cabin-luxe decor. It leads through to a luxury contemporary decadent bathroom. Guests will love the rain shower, whirlpool bath and delight in the cleverly hidden flat screen TV at one end of the bathtub. A pretty twin bedroom upstairs can also be made up for you on request if you are bringing children. Make your way down the heather fringed path to where the forest opens out and the loch laps against the shore. For all its feeling of remote woodland seclusion, you can reach the centre of Aviemore on foot in 30 minutes or by bike in 15 minutes via quiet forest tracks with breath-taking views across forested valleys to the wild beauty of the Cairngorms National Park. We cannot recommend this gorgeous cottage enough. Heaven.
