St Michael

Our gorgeous new St Michael suite is on the first floor of an imposing, traditional 19th century building, located at the well-known Cofinetta Square, the northern end of the famous Liston. Its’ outstanding location, at the heart of the vibrant old town, guarantees our guests having the enjoyment of staying in the the most fascinating part this unique place. The suite is named after the well-known Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George, which you can see out of the kitchen window. The Palace was the original seat of the Royal Order by the same name*, established in 1818, and was built on the North side of the Esplanade (Spianada) as the Lord High Commissioner’s official residence and the seat of the Ionian Senate and Parliament. It now houses the Corfu Museum of Asian Art. The St Michael Suites is on the first floor (accessed by a short flight of stairs) and is a wonderful blend of traditional features blended with stylish contemporary finishes, bold, hand-picked fabrics which enhance the room and produce a beautifully elegant whole. Cocomat beds, custom made headboards, crisp linens, pillows to suit all tastes and the full complement of technology mean that the St Michael suite offers a matchless level of design and comfort. The kitchenette has a small fridge and coffee machine and guests will love the complimentary Apivita products in the shower room. The St Michael suite has the added benefit of a small additional sitting room which has a sofa bed bed perfect for a child. A glorious array of breakfast choices are literally on your doorstep. Faliraki, one of the oldest local bathing spots, is a short distance away and is a fantastic place for swimming and/or having a leisurely drink or snack with a striking view. St Michael can also be booked together with the adjoining St George suite which sleeps 2 adults. The suites have an interconnecting door or external access as required.

* The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, one of the most significant
British Orders was established on 28 April 1818 by the Prince Regent George III (later-on King George IV), following a request for political reasons by Sir Thomas Maitland, Governor of Malta and first Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian Islands (1815-1824). Until 1864 the Order’s Seat was in Corfu, at the Palace named after it, while from 1906 until today Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London is its final Seat. Saint Michael the Archangel, General Commander of the Angelic orders, and St George, Patron of England, were chosen as the Order’s patrons, because the worship of both martial saints is particularly widespread in all Christian denominations, Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox. The moto of the Order, evident in all its symbolic and decorative elements, is the Latin phrase “Auspicium Melioris Aevi”, i.e. “Auspice for a better era”
